Recognize June 19th, 2026 as the Juneteenth National Independence Day.

DISCUSSION:
On June 17, 2021, President Joe Biden signed a bill establishing Juneteenth (June 19th), the date commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, as a federal holiday. Officially known as Juneteenth National Independence Day, the holiday became the twelfth federal public holiday and the first one established since Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday was recognized in 1983.
This proclamation complies with the Ceremonial Documents Policy (Resolution R2023-101), adopted by Council on October 3, 2023.

The City Clerk has determined that the Recommended Action described in this Staff Report is not subject to CEQA, pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Section 15060(c).
