LABEL

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Recommendation

Identify name(s) of interested Councilmember(s) to be considered by the Napa County City Selection Committee as nominees to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC).

Body

DISCUSSION:

The MTC was created as a local area planning agency providing comprehensive regional transportation planning for the region comprised of the City and County of San Francisco and the Counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma.  The commission develops regional transit service objectives, performance measures of efficiency and effectiveness, specifies uniform data requirements to assess public transit service benefits and costs, and establishes procedures for regional transportation priorities.

The commission consists of 21 members; the County of Napa is allocated one member.  Napa County jurisdictions are invited to submit names of individuals from their respective legislative bodies that may wish to be considered.  Names are submitted to the Napa County City Selection Committee, which nominates three individuals from names submitted.   Nominee names are then submitted to the Napa County Board of Supervisors for final consideration and appointment.

The Napa County City Selection Committee will hold a future meeting to nominate the names of three individuals to submit to the Napa County Board of Supervisors for final consideration and appointment. The date of this future meeting is likely to occur in early March, but a date has not been determined yet. The next regularly scheduled meeting for the Napa County City Selection Committee is scheduled to take place in April. However, if there is a consensus among the cities to call a special meeting for the Napa County City Selection Committee before April, then it is possible that the nominations may be made sooner depending on availability of each of the cities.

The term of office for MTC Commissioners is four years.  A Commissioner vacates his or her commission seat upon ceasing to hold public office unless the appointing authority consents to completion of the MTC term of office.

FINANCIAL IMPACTS:
