DISCUSSION:
The purpose of this presentation is to provide background and a progress report on the City's Sustainability Plan.

On July 24, 2012, the City Council adopted Resolution 2012-99, the City of Napa Sustainability Plan. The Sustainability Plan was developed through a collaborative process with the community to compile a comprehensive list of voluntary actions to enhance the quality of life and protect the environment. While sustainability does not have one single definition, the general concept of sustainability involves the ability to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability to meet the needs of the future. Typically, sustainability focuses on three components: the stewardship of and respect for the environment and natural resources of a community; increasing and deepening the social equity among people in the community, including the education, skills and health of the population; and strengthening the economic and financial prosperity of the community. When these three components come together, sustainable solutions and outcomes result.

The City of Napa's Sustainability Plan is organized into two sections, the City Government Sustainability Plan ("City Plan") and the Community Sustainability Plan ("Community Plan"). The purpose of separating the Sustainability Plan into two distinct sections was to create an opportunity for ongoing implementation by the City for measures within its work program while other programs and initiatives were to be implemented by community members with City support.
