RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Recommendation
Adopt a resolution acknowledging receipt of the 2020 Annual Fire Inspection Compliance Report prepared pursuant to California Health and Safety Code Sections 13146.2 - 13146.4 (SB 1205).

DISCUSSION:
California state law requires that all fire departments and districts in the state conduct annual safety inspections of all public and private schools, apartments, condominiums, hotels, and motels within their jurisdiction(s). Recognizing that this law did not require local compliance reporting of such inspections, a new state law, SB 1205 (Hill) was enacted in January 2019, which now requires all fire departments to submit annual reports to their governing bodies or administering authorities regarding their compliance with these state mandated fire inspections.
Attached is the 2020 Inspection Compliance Report. Note that due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and its resulting limitations, the completion of in-person inspections was not always possible. In these situations, Fire Prevention staff developed and implemented a self-inspection program to ensure that the required annual inspections were conducted by on-site staff. In this manner, Fire Inspectors were able to verify that impacted occupancies were maintaining the required minimum standards of fire and life safety. Mandatory documentation was completed and reported as required.
In 2020 Fire Prevention Staff completed all but one (1) of the state mandated inspections. The remaining single residential occupancy was closed and unresponsive to repeated attempts by staff to make contact and carry out the inspection. This occupancy will receive inspection priority in 2021.
