1. Adopt a resolution appointing Sabrina Wolfson as Interim City Attorney effective May 1, 2024.
2. Appoint two members of Council to an advisory committee to guide the City Manager and Human Resources Director for the permanent City Attorney recruitment process.

DISCUSSION:
On March 4, 2024, City Attorney Michael Barrett informed Mayor and Councilmembers of his intention to resign, with his last day being April 30, 2024. City Charter Section 75 authorizes the City Council to appoint the City Attorney. On March 14, 2024, the City Council met in closed session to discuss terms of appointment for an Interim City Attorney , and the City Council interviewed current Assistant City Attorney Sabrina Wolfson as a candidate. During that closed session, the City Council directed staff to return to a public meeting for action to appoint Sabrina Wolfson as Interim City Attorney.
Consistent with the direction from City Council, and consistent with the terms of employment for the City Attorney position as previously authorized by the City Council, the City Manager and Human Resources Director successfully negotiated terms of employment with Ms. Wolfson to serve as the Interim City Attorney, as documented in the attached resolution (Attachment 1). The appointment of Ms. Wolfson as Interim City Attorney is until such time as a permanent City Attorney has been selected and appointed by the City Council. Ms. Wolfson has the right to return to the Assistant City Attorney position at such time as a permanent City Attorney has been appointed.
